eVision Systems GmbH announces support for Total Phase's "USB Power Delivery Analyzer" in Data Center Software Release 6.7

With the Data Center software, developers on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux platforms can analyze USB Type-C power delivery using the USB Power Delivery Analyzer.

Forstinning, December 20, 2016– eVision Systems GmbH, the only authorized distributor of Total Phase in the DACH region, announced that the Total Phase “Data Center ™ Software” now supports the “USB Power Delivery Analyzer”. With the update of the award-winning Data Center software, developers on Windows, Mac OS X or Linux platforms can investigate the power supply of USB Type-C products. Independent of the development environment, users can measure the signals in the CC1- and CC2 configuration channels and make the “Power Delivery Negotiation” of the USB Type-C devices transparent cost-effectively and straightforwardly. The Power Delivery Analyzer (USB 3.1 Gen 2 standard) allows you to record data transfers without interfering with other high-speed signals.

The “USB Power Delivery Analyzer” is based on the Chromium project codenamed Twinkie. This project uses open source software to capture and read the data, but is limited in functionality and operating system support.

otal Phase updated the “USB Power Delivery Analyzer” to work with the Data Center software. The “Data Center Software” is a free real-time bus protocol analysis software from Total Phase.
“Total Phase worked closely with Google to bring the USB Power Delivery Analyzer to market,” said Gil Ben-Dov, CEO at Total Phase. “Our ability to capture, analyze and display bus data whether Mac, Windows or Linux is used greatly enhances the usability of the USB Power Delivery Analyzer, making it a must-have for any USB developer. ”

The “USB Power Delivery Analyzer” is able to measure the power supply at both configuration channels (CC1 / CC2) while acting as a transparent pass-through for USB data traffic (up to 10 Gbit / s).

Other features include:

  • Monitoring “Power delivery negotiation
  • Visualization and decoding of the „PD packets“
  • Monitoring „Sink/source charging level negotiation“
  • „Power delivery negotiation“ between different sources
  • Confirm a device’s compatibility and interplay with other Type-C power delivery solutions
  • Confirmation of electronically marked cables, identification and negotiation
  • Monitoring „upstream/downstream port role swap“
  • Monitoring of the „Alternate Mode’s“
