PCI Express Board Design

With the high data rate of the PCI Express, signal integrity issues arise which are new to designers. The board transforms from a carrier to a considerable electrical component in the signal path with significant influence on the performance of the connection. Several traps waiting for the board designer which should be avoided if a reliable PCI Express connection should be implemented.

The one day seminar delivers the knowledge for a successful PCI Express board design addressing the following topics:

• physical principles of the propagation of the PCI Express signals:
• electrical characteristics of PCI Express components: IO-cells, package, connector
• electrical board characteristics: materials, wires, vias
• PCI Express layout design rules
• Consideration and minimizing of PCI Layer structure

This course requires solely the basic knowledge of electrical engineering. It is also well suited as follow on training of the PCI Express IP core course.
